Hi, I’m Abby Bedford.

After nearly a decade as a middle school teacher and coach, both in Texas and abroad, I decided to go back to school to pursue my passion for helping people.

As a teacher, my greatest strength was connecting with my students and helping them through difficult times in their lives. This led to my wanting to enter the world of mental health. I feel that I have an innate ability to make people feel comfortable, and I now have the knowledge and training to put that gift to use.

As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I focus on the individual, as well as the system in which they exist. This means delving into family, community, and society to best address the whole of human experience.

I like to think that humor is a very important component in healing, so although therapy can be emotionally exhausting, it does not have to be serious all the time. Hopefully we will laugh together as we do the difficult work of bettering your mental health.

My Approach

My philosophy is that my clients are the experts of their own lives, and that each person possesses strengths and skills unique to them. Let’s uncover your strengths to help you move past the thoughts and emotions that keep you from feeling fulfilled.

My style is direct and solution focused, as I aim to help my clients find some ease as quickly as possible. My approach is secular/non-religious, LGBTQIA+ allied, and sex positive. I am here to help, not to judge.

How I Can Help

I have found that cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness are oftentimes quite helpful in relieving anxiety and depression. Let’s work together to change the script and reframe your thoughts to move toward a healthier and happier life.

What to expect

During the first session, I will ask a lot of questions about you and your history. We will discuss how you came to feel how you feel and work together to improve your everyday life using well-established tools and interventions. From there, sessions will take whatever shape we decide, whether it is discussing family history or current events. Again, you are the expert in your life.
